Shy and bespectacled Russell Mockridge was the black sheep of Australian cycling and also its greatest all-round champion. At the 1952 Olympics he won two gold medals in one afternoon. Russell Mockridge was an Australian track and road cyclist. He was born in Melbourne and grew up in Geelong. He won gold medals at both the Olympic and British Empire Games and was Australian national sprint, pursuit, and road race champion. He was killed while competing in the Tour of Gippsland in 1958.
